Before your appointment

We recommend using olive oil drops for 5–7 days before your appointment to soften the wax. This makes removal faster and more comfortable.

Your appointment typically takes around 30 minutes. Here's what to expect from start to finish.

Initial Ear Examination

Using the TympaHealth system, your pharmacist will examine both ears with a high-definition digital otoscope. This gives a clear, magnified view of the ear canal and eardrum — and the image can be shown to you on a screen.

Hearing Screening

A quick hearing check is carried out to establish your baseline hearing levels before any procedure. This helps track improvement after the removal.

Wax Removal

Depending on the type and location of the wax, your pharmacist will use either microsuction (a gentle vacuum) or irrigation (a warm water flush) to safely clear the ear canal. Both methods are safe, quick, and well-tolerated.

Post-Removal Check

Your ears are examined again after the procedure to confirm the wax has been cleared and that the ear canal and eardrum look healthy.

What Happens Next?

If Wax Remains

If the wax is too hard or impacted to remove in one session, we will advise you to continue softening drops and return for a follow-up appointment.

If a Hearing Problem is Found
